EXP: schon das Mittelalter kannte solche staatlichen oder kommunalen Anstalten, die der augenblicklichen Geldverlegenheit meist ärmerer Leute durch Gewährung von Darlehen gegen Faustpfand abhelfen sollten (a); in der Schweiz wurde in den 1870er Jahren das Pfandleih- und Trödelgewerbe in den Kantonen Schaffhausen, Genf, Basel-Stadt, Zürich, Neuenburg, Thurgau, Bern, Waadt und Appenzell Ausserrhoden gesetzlich geregelt (b); heute gibt es drei Anbieter: Pfandleihkasse der Zürcher Kantonalbank (1872), Caisse publique de prets sur gages de Genève (1872) und Istituto Prestiti su Pegno di Lugano (c)
