Optional referendum normally initiated by cantonal parliaments (or in certain cantons, the cantonal council or a cantonal request for a referendum), which is held when a minimum of eight cantons request a popular vote on a federal act, federal decree or international treaty.

Référendum facultatif auquel, en règle générale, les parlements cantonaux (ou, dans certains cantons, le Conseil d'État, dans d'autres, le peuple par le biais d'une demande populaire cantonale) de huit cantons au moins peuvent avoir recours pour demander une votation populaire fédérale sur une loi fédérale, un arrêté fédéral ou un traité international.

Referendum facoltativo di almeno otto Cantoni, per lo più lanciato dal parlamento cantonale (in alcuni Cantoni dal governo, in altri attraverso un'iniziativa popolare cantonale) per chiedere una votazione popolare su leggi federali, decreti federali o trattati internazionali.
