Protocollo che stabilisce un insieme di regole, basate sul principio di precauzione, per il trasferimento, il trattamento e l'uso sicuro di organismi viventi modificati, ottenuti con le moderne biotecnologie, che possano avere effetti negativi sulla conservazione e l'uso sostenibile della diversità biologica, tenendo conto dei rischi per la salute umana e prestando particolare attenzione ai movimenti transfrontalieri.
