Linguistic Context
Schweizerinnen und Schweizer, die im Ausland wohnhaft sind und neben der schweizerischen noch eine zusätzliche Staatsangehörigkeit besitzen (bzw. eine solche zugesichert haben), können bei der zuständigen schweizerischen Auslandvertretung nach Artikel 42 des Bürgerrechtsgesetzes ein Gesuch um Entlassung aus dem Schweizer Bürgerrecht stellen.
Term Note
The term 'relief of citizenship' is used in the Swiss Citizenship Act and in the EDAscout process. The term 'release' from Swiss citizenship is currently used in eVERA, but this will be changed at the next system update. In texts for the general public, English translators may also select a more appropriate noun (e.g. 'renunciation' of Swiss citizenship) or replace the noun with a verb structure to suit their context.
