A diplomatic presence for safeguarding Switzerland's interests serves exclusively to safeguard Switzerland's interests and does not offer any consular services. Whilst the larger DP-Is are staffed by several employees posted from Switzerland, in the smaller ones sometimes the only member of staff posted from Switzerland is the mission head. In the case of the latter, administrative duties are greatly simplified so that they can be carried out by local personnel. The terms 'DP-I Basic' is used to designate the simplifed form of operational management; other such representations are designated 'DP-I Standard'.
