USG: offiziell; EXP: 1987 als privatrechtliche Stiftung gegründet; 2016 wurde die Stiftung aufgelöst und das Tonarchiv in die Schweizerische Nationalbibliothek (beim Bundesamt für Kultur) eingegliedert; die Nationalphonothek ist das Tonarchiv der Schweiz mit Sitz in Lugano und kümmert sich um das klingende Kulturgut des Landes; sie sammelt und dokumentiert Tonträger, deren Inhalte einen Bezug zur Geschichte und Kultur der Schweiz haben; dazu gehören sowohl musikalische als auch gesprochene Dokumente, wie zum Beispiel: Aufnahmen klassischer Musik, Rock, Jazz, Volksmusik, Hörbücher, Erzählungen, Theaterstücke, Interviews, Tondokumente aus Wissenschaft und Forschung, Feldaufnahmen oder auch private Sammlungen; HIS: seit 2016; 1987-2015 Schweizerische Landesphonothek (F.N.)
