Linguistic Context
Un rifiuto, per essere definito compostabile, deve essere inevitabilmente biodegradabile mentre, al contrario, un materiale biodegradabile non è necessariamente compostabile perché, ad esempio, potrebbe non disintegrarsi a sufficienza durante un ciclo di compostaggio. La principale differenza tra i due termini sta quindi essenzialmente nei tempi della degradazione. Inoltre ciò che è compostabile torna alla terra come sostanza nutritiva sotto forma di compost, mentre il biodegradabile torna alla natura sotto forma di sali minerali e altri elementi semplici.

EXP: kompostierbar ist ein Produkt , wenn es unter bestimmten Bedingungen und innerhalb eines festen Zeitraums ohne toxische Rückstände in Kohlenstoffdioxid, Wasser und einen Bruchteil der ursprünglichen Masse (10 %) zersetzt werden kann und dieser Zersetzungsprozess allein mithilfe von Mikroorganismen oder Enzymen abläuft
