Cumulo. È la soluzione indicata per chi ha molto spazio e grandi quantità di scarti organici da compostare (sfalci d’erba, foglie e ramaglie). Al raggiungimento di un quantitativo minimo di circa 1 metro cubo di scarti organici si può procedere al posizionamento del cumulo (larghezza ca. 1.5 metri per un’altezza massima di 1.2 metri) direttamente a contatto con il terreno in una zona parzialmente ombreggiata e asciutta. Il cumulo deve essere sempre coperto da un telo di tessuto non tessuto (impermeabile ma traspirante).

Le compostage en andain consiste à placer un mélange de matières premières dans de longs tas étroits appelés andains [...] qui sont remués ou tournés de façon régulière [...]. L’opération de retournement mélange les composants du compost et améliore l’aération passive. De manière générale, les andains ont une hauteur qui varie de 90 cm pour les matières denses telles que le fumier, à 360 cm de haut pour les matières légères, volumineuses telles que les feuilles. Leur largeur varie de 300 à 600 cm.
