Gli obiettivi perseguiti da queste tecniche sono da un lato di evitare la riutilizzazione e la selezione non autorizzata delle sementi, e dall’altro di ridurre le probabilità di diffusione indesiderata nell’ambiente del patrimonio genetico modificato.

Als damit verfolgte Ziele werden zum einen genannt, die Wiederverwendung und das unerlaubte Weiterzüchten des Saatgutes zu verhindern, und zum andern, die Wahrscheinlichkeit der unerwünschten Verbreitung des transgenen Erbgutes in der Umwelt zu verringern.
