Shielding of an installation which ensures that, during operation, useful, scattered and stray radiation is completely contained, except for sample openings, and shielded to such an extent that the ambient dose rate at a distance of 10 cm from the surface is reduced to less than 1 µSv per hour and that, at all accessible locations, the dose limits applicable for members of the public cannot be exceeded.

Dispositif de protection d’une installation ou d’une unité d’irradiation qui confine totalement le rayonnement primaire, diffusé et parasite et le réduit de sorte que le débit de dose ambiante à 10 cm de la surface de l’installation soit inférieur à 1 Sv/h et qu’en tout endroit accessible, les valeurs limites de dose applicables aux membres du public ne soient pas dépassées.

Schermatura di un impianto che, durante l’esercizio dell’impianto, confina completa-mente le radiazioni dirette, diffuse e parassite, escluse le aperture per l’introduzione dei campioni, e le scherma in modo tale da ridurre l’intensità di dose ambientale a 10 cm di distanza dalla superficie dell’impianto, a meno di 1 µSv l’ora e da impedire che, in ogni punto accessibile, i limiti di dose per gli individui della popolazione siano superati.
