Bei den sogenannten "ERA-NET Plus" werden die nationalen Förderbeiträge zusätzlich durch FRP[Forschungsrahmenprogramm]-Mittel ergänzt. ERA-NETs erfreuen sich reger Beteiligung von Schweizer Seite; Ausschreibungen erfolgen hauptsächlich durch Bundesämter sowie durch die Förderinstitutionen SNF [Schweizerischer Nationalfonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung] und KTI [Kommission für Technologie und Innovation] im Rahmen ihrer ordentlichen Budgets.

Les ERA-NET se réjouissent d’une forte participation suisse; les appels à propositions sont lancés principalement par les offices fédéraux et par les agences d’encouragement FNS [Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique] et CTI [Commission pour la technologie et l'innovation] sur leurs budget ordinaire.

ERA-NET Plus was introduced in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) as a new instrument within the ERA-NET scheme. The overall aim of the ERA-NET scheme is to develop and strengthen the coordination of national research activities. The Plus instrument is designed to further enhance trans-national funding of research, building on the success achieved with the "Classic" ERANET instrument. The new dimension brought by the Plus instrument is that the Commission provides an incentive for the organisation of joint calls by "topping up" joint transnational funding with Community funds.
