Supreme legislative act of the Confederation that forms the legal foundation for all other legislation and for the federal structure of the state, and which regulates the fundamental rights and duties of citizens and of the entire population as well as the structure and powers of the federal authorities, and any total revision or amendment of which must be submitted to the People and the Cantons for approval (mandatory referendum).

Legge suprema della Confederazione che, oltre a servire da base giuridica per la restante legislazione e l'ordinamento federalistico dello Stato, disciplina i diritti e i doveri fondamentali dei cittadini e dell'intera popolazione, nonché la struttura e le competenze degli organi e delle autorità federali; ogni rielaborazione globale (revisione totale) e ogni modifica puntuale (revisione parziale) della Costituzione devono essere sottoposte all'approvazione del Popolo e dei Cantoni (referendum obbligatorio).

SYS: SR 101; HIS: die erste Bundesverfassung wurde 1848 beschlossen und danach 1874 total und später öfters teilweise revidiert. Vorläufer waren u. a. die Bündnisverträge zwischen den Partnern der Alten Eidgenossenschaft sowie die Verfassung der Helvetischen Republik (1798), die Mediationsakte (1803) und der Bundesvertrag von 1815. Auf Vorschlag der Bundesversammlung haben Volk und Kantone am 18. April 1999 eine total überarbeitete Fassung angenommen; diese ist am 1. Januar 2000 in Kraft getreten

HIS: the first Federal Constitution was adopted in 1848, underwent a total revision in 1874 and regular amendments thereafter. Its forerunners included the agreements between the partners to the Old Confederacy and the Constitution of the Helvetic Republic (1798), the Act of Mediation (1803) and the Federal Treaty of 1815. At the proposal of the Federal Assembly, the People and the cantons adopted a totally revised Constitution on 18 April 1999, which came into force on 1 January 2000

SYS: RS 101; HIS: la première Constitution fédérale a été adoptée en 1848. Elle a fait l'objet d'une refonte totale en 1874 et a subi plusieurs révisions partielles par la suite. Parmi les précurseurs de la Constitution on compte les différents pactes entre les partenaires de l'ancienne Confédération et la constitution de la République helvétique de 1798, l'acte de Médiation de 1803 ainsi que le Pacte fédéral de 1815. Le 18 avril 1999, le Peuple et les Cantons suisses ont adopté, sur proposition de l'Assemblée fédérale, une Constitution fédérale totalement révisée qui est entrée en vigueur le 1 janvier 2000

È stata preceduta da diversi patti fra i membri della vecchia Confederazione, in particolare dalla costituzione della Repubblica Elvetica (1798), dall'Atto di Mediazione del 1803 e dal Patto federale del 1815. Su proposta dell'Assemblea federale, il Popolo e i Cantoni svizzeri hanno approvato il 18 aprile 1999 una versione totalmente rielaborata della Costituzione federale che è entrata in vigore il 1° gennaio 2000
