USG: Seit 1999 erscheint diese Benennung nicht mehr in der Bundesverfassung; EXP: Halbkantone sind: Obwalden (OW) und Nidwalden (NW) [Unterwalden], Basel-Stadt (BS) und Basel-Landschaft (BL) [Basel], Appenzell Ausserrhoden (AR) und Appenzell Innerrhoden (AI) [Appenzell]. Die Halbkantone sind den "Ganzkantonen" gleichgestellt, insofern die Bundesverfassung nichts anderes vorsieht. Sie haben z. B. nur einen Sitz im Ständerat.

EXP: since 1999, this term has no longer been used in the Federal Constitution. The half-cantons of the Swiss Confederation are: Obwalden (OW) and Nidwalden (NW) [Unterwalden), Basel Stadt (BS) and Basel Landschaft (BL) [Basel], Appenzell Ausserrhoden (AR) and Appenzell Innerrhoden (AI) [Appenzell]. Half-cantons are regarded as equal to "full-cantons" unless the Federal Constitution provides otherwise. For example, each has only one seat in the Council of States.

USG: la dénomination demi-canton n'apparaît plus dans la Constitution depuis 1999; EXP: les demi-cantons de la Confédération suisse sont: Obwald (OW) et Nidwald (NW) [Unterwalden], Bâle-Ville (BS) et Bâle-Campagne (BL) [Bâle], Appenzell Rhodes-Extérieures (AR) et Appenzell Rhodes- Intérieures (AI) [Appenzell]. Les demi-cantons sont des collectivités de même nature que les cantons si la Constitution fédérale ne le prévoit pas différemment (un seul siège au Conseil des Etats p. ex.).
