Dieser Abschnitt umfasst die Gewinnung natürlich vorkommender fester (Kohle und Erze), flüssiger (Erdöl) und gasförmiger (Erdgas) mineralischer Rohstoffe. Die Förderung solcher Rohstoffe erfolgt mit unterschiedlichen Verfahren: im Untertage- oder Übertage-Bergbau, mit Bohrungen, im Meeresbodenbergbau usw. Er umfasst auch zusätzliche Tätigkeiten zur Aufbereitung von Rohstoffen für den Absatz, z. B. Zerkleinern, Mahlen, Waschen, Sortieren, Konzentration von Erzen, Verflüssigung von Erdgas und Brikettierung von festen Brennstoffen. Diese Tätigkeiten werden häufig von den Förderbetrieben selbst und/oder nahe der Förderstelle gelegenen Betrieben ausgeführt. Die Abteilungen, Gruppen und Klassen dieses Abschnitts sind nach dem hauptsächlich gewonnenen Rohstoff gegliedert. In den Abschnitten 05 und 06 ist der Bergbau auf fossile Brennstoffe (Kohle, Braunkohle, Erdöl, Gas) bzw. deren Gewinnung aufgeführt, die Abschnitte 07und 08 behandeln den Erzbergbau, die Gewinnung von Steinen und Erden und den sonstigen Bergbau. Einige Tätigkeiten in diesem Abschnitt, die eng mit der Gewinnung von Kohlenwasserstoffen verbunden sind, können auch von spezialisierten Einheiten der Abteilung 09 als industrielle Dienstleistungen für Dritte erbracht werden.

Mining and quarrying include the extraction of minerals occurring naturally as solids (coal and ores), liquids (petroleum) or gases (natural gas). Extraction can be achieved by different methods such as underground or surface mining, well operation, seabed mining, etc. This section includes supplementary activities aimed at preparing the crude materials for market, for example, crushing, grinding, cleaning, drying, sorting, concentrating ores, liquefaction of natural gas and agglomeration of solid fuels. These operations are often accomplished by the units that extracted the resource and/or others located nearby. Mining activities are classified into divisions, groups and classes on the basis of the principal mineral produced. Divisions 05, 06 are concerned with mining and quarrying of fossil fuels (coal, lignite, petroleum, gas)divisions 07, 08 concern metal ores, various minerals and quarry products. Some of the technical operations of this section, particularly related to the extraction of hydrocarbons, may also be carried out for third parties by specialised units as an industrial service, which is reflected in division 09.

Les industries extractives comprennent l'extraction de produits minéraux trouvés à l'état naturel sous forme solide (houille et minerais), liquide (pétrole) ou gazeuse (gaz naturel). L'extraction peut se faire de différentes manières: sous terre, en surface, par le creusement de puits ou par l'exploitation minière des fonds marins, notamment. Cette section comprend les opérations supplémentaires nécessaires à la préparation des matières brutes pour leur commercialisation, par exemple: concassage, broyage, nettoyage, séchage, triage, concentration des minerais, liquéfaction du gaz naturel et agglomération des combustibles solides. Ces opérations sont souvent réalisées par les unités qui pratiquent l'extraction et/ou situées à proximité du site. Les activités minières sont classées en divisions, groupes et classes sur la base du principal minéral produit. Les divisions 05 et 06 concernent l'extraction de combustibles fossiles (houille, lignite, pétrole, gaz); les divisions 07 et 08 concernent l'extraction de minerais métalliques, de minéraux divers et de produits de carrière. Certaines opérations techniques de cette section, notamment pour l'extraction d'hydrocarbures, peuvent être réalisées pour compte de tiers par des unités spécialisées en tant qu'activités de service industrielles relevant de la division 09.

L'estrazione può essere effettuata utilizzando diversi metodi, quali l'impiego di miniere sotterranee o a cielo aperto, di pozzi, estrazioni marine, ecc. Questa sezione include attività supplementari mirate alla preparazione dei materiali grezzi per la commercializzazione, per esempio, la frantumazione, la macinazione, il lavaggio, l'essiccazione, la concentrazione di minerali, la liquefazione del gas naturale e l'agglomerazione dei combustibili solidi. Queste operazioni vengono spesso effettuate dalle unità che hanno estratto le risorse e/o da altre unità situate in prossimità delle stesse. Le attività estrattive sono classificate in divisioni, gruppi e classi in base al principale minerale prodotto. Le divisioni 05, 06 riguardano l'estrazione di combustibili fossili (carbone, lignite, petrolio, gas); le divisioni 07, 08 riguardano i minerali metalliferi, minerali vari e prodotti di cava. Alcune operazioni tecniche di questa sezione, in particolare legate all'estrazione di idrocarburi, possono essere anche effettuate da unità specializzate per conto terzi, come i servizi industriali che rientrano nella divisione 09.

This section excludes: - processing of the extracted materials (see section C - Manufacturing) - usage of the extracted materials without a further transformation for construction purposes (see section F - Construction) - bottling of natural spring and mineral waters at springs and wells (see 1107) - crushing, grinding or otherwise treating certain earths, rocks and minerals not carried on in conjunction with mining and quarrying (see 239)
