Scientific and permanent office which is charged with the followings tasks: the comparison and verification of all new prototypes of the metre and the kilogram, the conservation of the international prototypes and standards, the periodic comparisons of national standards with international prototypes and their official copies as well as those of standard thermometers, the comparison of the new prototypes with the fundamental standards of non-metric weights and measures used in different countries and in the sciences, the calibration and comparison of geodetic standards, the comparison of precision standards and scales whose verification may be requested.

Institut scientifique permanent qui est chargé d'effectuer les tâches suivantes: toutes les comparaisons et vérifications des nouveaux prototypes du mètre et du kilogramme, la conservation des prototypes et étalons internationaux, des comparaisons périodiques des étalons nationaux avec les prototypes internationaux et avec leurs témoins, ainsi que celles des thermomètres étalons, la comparaison des nouveaux prototypes avec les étalons fondamentaux des poids et mesures non métriques employés dans les différents pays et dans les sciences, l'étalonnage et la comparaison des règles géodésiques ainsi que la comparaison des étalons et échelles de précision dont la vérification serait demandée.

Istituto scientifico permanente al quale incombono le funzioni seguenti: tutti i confronti e le verificazioni dei nuovi prototipi del metro e del chilogramma, la conservazione dei prototipi e dei campioni internazionali, il confronto periodico dei campioni di metro e chilogramma consegnati ai singoli Stati coi prototipi internazionali e coi loro testimoni di controllo, come pure il confronto periodico dei termometri-campioni, il confronto dei nuovi prototipi coi campioni fondamentali dei pesi e delle misure non metriche adoperati nei diversi paesi e nelle scienze, la determinazione e il confronto delle misure geodetiche, il confronto dei campioni e delle scale di precisione di cui venisse chiesta la verificazione.
