Die dreijährige Sekundarstufe I folgt auf die Primarstufe. Einzig im Kanton Tessin dauert die Sekundarstufe I (Scuola media) vier Jahre. Der Unterricht auf der Sekundarstufe I erfolgt leistungsdifferenziert nach unterschiedlichen Modellen (geteiltes, kooperatives oder integriertes Modell). Je nach Kanton wird flächendeckend ein Modell geführt oder der Kanton überlässt den Gemeinden die Wahl zwischen verschiedenen Modellen. (Quelle EDK)

The three years of lower secondary level follow primary school. In the canton of Ticino only, lower secondary level (Scuola media) takes four years. In lower secondary level, teaching is realised at different performance levels. There are three different structural models (streamed, cooperative or integrated model). Depending on the canton, either a single model is implemented throughout the entire canton, or the canton allows the municipalities to choose between various models. (source EDK)

Le degré secondaire I fait suite au degré primaire et il dure trois ans. Seul dans le canton du Tessin, le degré secondaire I (Scuola media) dure 4 ans. L'enseignement est dispensé sur la base de niveaux de performances et selon différents modèles (modèle avec filières, modèle coopératif, modèle intégré). Selon le canton, soit le modèle adopté est le même sur toute son étendue, soit il laisse aux communes la possibilité de choisir entre différents modèles. (source EDK)

Nel livello secondario inferiore, l'insegnamento è realizzato a diversi livelli di prestazione. Esistono tre diversi modelli strutturali (modello a flusso, cooperativo o integrato).
