Diese Abteilung umfasst die Herstellung von Holz- und Zellstoff und veredelten Papiererzeugnissen. Die Herstellung dieser Erzeugnisse wird zusammengefasst, da sie eine Reihe von vertikal verbundenen Verfahren bildet. In einer Einheit werden häufig mehrere Verfahren durchgeführt. Es gibt im Wesentlichen drei Tätigkeiten: Die Herstellung von Holz - und Zellstoff besteht in der Trennung der Zellstofffasern von den anderen im Holz enthaltenen Stoffen oder in der Auflösung und Entfärbung von Altpapier sowie der Beimischung von Reagenzien in kleinen Mengen, um den Zusammenhalt der Fasern zu verstärken. Bei der Herstellung von Papier wird der Zellstoffbrei auf ein Drahtsieb aufgebracht und bildet ein Endlosblatt. Veredelte Papiererzeugnisse werden aus Papier und anderem Material durch verschiedene Verfahren hergestellt. Eingeschlossen sind auch bedruckte Papiererzeugnisse (z. B. Tapeten, Geschenkpapier usw.), sofern das Drucken von Informationen nicht der Hauptzweck ist. Die Herstellung von Holz- und Zellstoff, Papier, Karton und Pappe zählt zur Gruppe 171, die übrigen Klassen umfassen die Herstellung von weiterverarbeitetem Papier und Papiererzeugnissen.

This division includes the manufacture of pulp, paper and converted paper products. The manufacture of these products is grouped together because they constitute a series of vertically connected processes. More than one activity is often carried out in a single unit. There are essentially three activities: The manufacture of pulp involves separating the cellulose fibres from other matter in wood, or dissolving and de-inking of used paper, and mixing in small amounts of reagents to reinforce the binding of the fibres. The manufacture of paper involves releasing pulp onto a moving wire mesh to form a continuous sheet. Converted paper products are made from paper and other materials by various techniques. The paper articles may be printed (e.g. wallpaper, gift wrap, etc.), as long as the printing of information is not the main purpose. The production of pulp, paper and paperboard in bulk is included in group 171, while the remaining classes include the production of further-processed paper and paper products.

Cette division couvre la fabrication de la pâte à papier, du papier ou des produits en papier recyclé. La fabrication de ces produits est regroupée parce qu'elle représente une série d'opérations liées verticalement. Plusieurs d'entre elles sont souvent accomplies dans une même unité. On distingue trois activités essentielles. La fabrication de pâte à papier consiste à séparer les fibres cellulosiques des impuretés contenues dans le bois ou à dissoudre et désencrer le papier recyclé et à y mélanger de faibles quantités de réactifs afin de renforcer le liant des fibres. La fabrication du papier consiste à répartir la pulpe sur une grille mobile en vue de former une feuille continue. Les produits à base de papier recyclé sont fabriqués à partir de papier et d'autres matières par différentes techniques. Les articles en papier peuvent être imprimés (papiers peints, papiers cadeaux, etc.), dès lors que l'information imprimée n'est pas la finalité principale. La production de pulpe, de papiers ou de cartons en gros est comprise dans le groupe 171, tandis que les autres classes comprennent la production d'articles et de produits en papier ayant fait l'objet d'une transformation ultérieure.

Le attività sono essenzialmente tre: la fabbricazione di pasta-carta comporta la separazione delle fibre di cellulosa dalle altre impurità del legno o la dissoluzione e la decolorazione della carta usata con l'aggiunta di prodotti reagenti in piccole dosi per il rafforzamento delle fibre. L'impasto di cellulosa così ottenuto è steso su una grata di rete, formando un foglio senza fine. I prodotti di carta sono fabbricati partendo dalla carta o da altro materiale e attraverso procedure differenti. La fabbricazione di articoli di carta stampata (ad esempio carta da parati, carta da regalo eccetera) è compresa in questa divisione a condizione che l'attività di stampa non costituisca lo scopo principale dell'attività. La produzione di pasta-carta, carta e cartone in forma grezza è inclusa nel gruppo 171, mentre il gruppo 172 include la produzione di carta e prodotti in carta sottoposti ad un'ulteriore lavorazione.
