Das Stadtarchiv Solothurn besteht seit 2012 und verwahrt die Unterlagen der städtischen Verwaltung seit ca. 1800 bis heute. Das Magazin des Stadtarchivs befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Zentralbibliothek in Solothurn. Die Vermittlung und Benutzerbetreuung wird daher von der Zentralbibliothek Solothurn gewährleistet.

Das Stadtarchiv besteht hauptsächlich aus einem Altbestand, der seit 1969 in der Zentralbibliothek Solothurn als Depositum eingelagert war. 2011 erfolgte die schrittweise Überführung des Altbestandes in den Neubau des Stadtarchivs. Weiter sind im Archiv diverse seit 2011 erhaltene Ablieferungen von städtischen Verwaltungsabteilungen wie auch kleinere Vereins- und Stiftungsbestände enthalten.
